Abstract
914,866. Electro-plating with stainless steel. AMCHEM S.A. May 18, 1961 [May 24, 1960], No. 18235/61. Class 41. Metal surfaces, especially steel, are electroplated with stainless steel using an electrolyte containing ions of Fe, tri-valent Cr, and Ni and 1 to 4 g. per litre of urea, maintained at pH 1.5 to 3.5. The urea may be partly replaced by boric acid and tartaric acid. A brightening agent, e.g. pyridine, may be added and also salts of other alloying metals, e.g. of Cu, Ti, Co, W, Zn, Mo and N. The current density is 0.6 to 2 A.S. inch, and temperature is maintained at 30‹ to 80‹ C. In examples, surfaces of copper, zinc, brass and iron are treated under the conditions specified with electrolytes containing 0.2 to 0.4 g. per litre of each of the ions Fe, Cr, Ni and also urea and boric acid. The coated plate may be heated gently to remove hydrogen.
