914,313. Electric heating resistances. STEIN ATKINSON STORDY Ltd. April 13, 1959 [April 11, 1958], No.12505/59. Class 39 (3). In a furnace or soaking pit the electric heating element comprises a number of trough sections 13, Fig. 12, of electrically conducting material arranged end to end and formed as an arch 11 supported solely at its ends by the sides 2 of the furnace or soaking pit; the trough sections 13 contain carbonaceous resistance material such as coke or coke breeze. The tendency for the joints between the sections to open is thus eliminated. The arch 11 is an annular sector and electrodes 22 project into the carbonaceous filling at each end of the arch 11. The end bearings 12 are slidable in the furnace or soaking pit walls 2 so that they can be moved towards one another to take up sag or wear of the trough sections of the arch 11. The troughs need not be of U-shape.
