Abstract
939,039. Vacuum furnaces. C. I. HAYES Inc. Dec. 7, 1960, No. 42118/60. Class 51 (2). [Also in Groups XI and XXXVI] An electrically heated vacuum furnace is in two water-jacketed sections 14 and 16 of nickelclad steel making a vacuum seal with 0-ring 20, the resistance heating element 66 (see Group XI) being closely surrounded by a cylindrical radiation shield 130. A thermocouple 36 projects upward along the axis of the element 66 and is normally enclosed by a tube 42 which at its lower end carries a polished work-table 50 and a radiation shield 52 and which can be raised into section 14 by winch 60 for cooling and, subsequent to the hydraulic raising and swinging aside of section 14, for unloading.
