914,239. Applying adhesive strip. NEUBRONNER, C. April 18, 1961 [April 19, 1960], No. 13889/61. Class 73. Apparatus for sealing packages by means of adhesive strip comprises two brushes 1, 9 mounted on arms 2, 10 pivoted at 3, 11 respectively, the pivots 3, 11 carrying radial arms 12, 13 connected by a tensioned spring 14, while a cord or cable 15 connects the arm 13 with a feed lever 24 for the advance of adhesive strip from a dispenser (not shown) and the setting of a cutter (not shown). On actuation of the lever 24, the brush 9 is swung to the position shown in Fig. 2, against the action of the spring 14, pivot 3 being held against movement by a pawl 5 engaging a ratchet wheel 4. The package P advance to contact the adhesive strip (not shown) and strike against a feeler 7 which, by means of a pushrod 6, releases the pawl 5 from the ratchet 4, the spring 14 then operating to swing the arm 2 downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 2. The brush 1 slides upwardly over the print of the package and then along the top as the package moves forwardly. When the package P passes a trip latch 20, the cutter is operated and the tension in the cord 15 released, so that the spring 14 swings the brush 9 downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 3 in which it brushes the strip on to the rear end of the package, the. pawl 5 having re-engaged the ratchet 4 to prevent further movement of the arm 2. A spring-urged pressing rocker 16 may also be provided.
