Actuation mechanism for a pinch cock comprises a rigid base plate 1 having a transverse rib or anvil 2, which is preferably of semi-circular or triangular cross-section. A plunger 7 is resiliently loaded by a spring or by a fluid pressure to close the valve by squeezing the flexible tubing 12 between the plunger and the anvil or rib 2. The plunger may be provided with a pin 9 co-operating with a helical cam surface 11 to operate the valve.
