Abstract

1360439 Regulating fluid-flow LE VOY'S Inc 6 Sept 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 41389/71 Heading G3H [Also in Division F2] A continuous flow control apparatus, which is designed to be interposed between a pressurized infusion container (2), Fig.1, (not shown), and a catheter (7), comprises an inlet 5, an outlet 6 and, disposed therebetween, a small bore capillary 24 and a manually operable fail-safe valve 27, the capillary and valve being arranged in parallel with one another. In the closed state of the valve, shown, all flow between the inlet 5 and outlet 6 takes place through the capillary. When it is desired to temporarily increase the flow to the outlet, the valve is manually raised from its seat 21, by drawing stem 30, such that a wall portion 28 of the valve attains a bellows shape Fig. 5, (not shown). Releasing of the valve stem 30 results in valve 27 being returned to its seat by the fluid pressure within the inlet 5. The valve 27 is formed from rubber and includes a guiding stem 31. A bore 14 leading to the outlet 6 may be connected to monitoring apparatus or may be used for hypodermic injection.
