Abstract

914,045. Grading fruit or the like. NEW ZEALAND FRUITGROWERS FEDERATION Ltd. April 25, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14452/60. Class 117. A fruit or the like grading machine comprises a pair of fruit carrier belts 17, 18, Fig. 3, which travel in the same direction longitudinally of the machine, each at adjustable speed, and pass beneath rubber or felt-coated rollers 19 which are mounted at decreasing heights and push fruit from the belts through shoots 34, e.g. of rubber, into rotating bins 37. - To ensure accuracy in grading apples, one belt is run faster than the other so that the apples rotate on their cheeks and align themselves similarly. Brushes 45 and 30, Fig. 1, aid the rotation. The rollers are adjustable in height, being supported by brackets 21 pivoted at 22 and pivotable by a hand screw 24 engaging a lug 15a. Each bin 37 is rotated by a friction disc 41 pressed against a rotating sprocket 40 by the weight of the bin.
