Abstract
913,882. Spinning and finishing yarns. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. Aug. 17, 1961 [Sept. 17, 1960], No. 32041/60. Class 120 (3). " Man-made " filaments or yarns are permanently crimped by single or collective passage whilst cold, i.e. at any temperature below that at which any reorientation of the molecules occurs, and hard or non-plastic through the nip of two cold or heated coacting pressure-rollers, having smooth uncorrugated surfaces composed of material which is harder than the material of the yarn &c., and setting the crimp. The filaments or yarns may be circular or non- circular, e.g. triangular or pentagonal, and/or symmetrical or asymmetrical in cross-section and of polyacrylonitrile, polyamide, polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, cellulose acetate or triacetate, or viscose. The rollers may be similar or different as regards material, dimension, hardness, smoothness, rotational speed. A shearing force may be applied to the yarn &c. by driving one roller, so as to drive the other by contact therewith, and braking the driven roller, or by driving the rollers at different peripheral speeds. The crimp may be set by passing the yarn &c. through a radiant heater or in contact with a heated metal plate or by steam in its travel from the rollers to wind-up or coiling mechanism. Specification 913,881 is referred to.
