[Also in Group XXXV] In an automatic control system for a machine, wherein a web 5 is advanced to slitting device 13, the lateral displacement of the web is sensed by edge rollers 15 connected by rigid arms 14, 23 to a bell-crank lever 17. Pivotal movement of the lever 17 outside of predetermined limits causes the selective actuation of switches 30, 31 to energize a motor 32 so as to correct the lateral displacement by driving a screw-shaft 33 to position disc-like rollers 34. Adjustment for the width of the web 5 is effected by varying the distance apart of the attachment points of arms 14, 23 to the lever 17, Fig. 3, not shown.
