913,700. Determining gas pressure. LABORATOIRE DES BASSES PRESSIONS. March 8, 1961 [April 8, 1960], No. 8541/61. Drawings to Specification. Class 37. The pressure within a vessel is determined by measuring the change in dielectric constant of the dielectric of a capacitor arranged to be subjected to the pressure within the vessel. The capacitor may be housed within the tank or in an external vessel, the plates being firmly secured, and the conductors being kept short to reduce parasitic capacitances. The capacitance is included in the tank circuit of an oscillator and the oscillator frequency may be compared with that of a standard oscillator to produce a beat frequency indicative of the pressure, or a single oscillator may be calibrated by first subjecting the capacitor to atmosphere, the oscillator frequency subsequently giving a direct indication of pressure. A frequency of several megacycles is suggested and some values are given. The electronic circuitry is temperature controlled.
