A liquid dispenser and applicator comprises a container having at one end an absorbent applicator element, valve means for controlling the flow of liquid from the container to the applicator element, means associated with said valve means and movable to effect actuation thereof and a cap adapted when fitted over the applicator to engage and move the valveactuating means and thereby close the valve and hermetically enclose said applicator element. As shown, a tubular container 13 of somewhat flexible plastics material has a neck which includes a large neck base 15 provided with an external thread 16 and a dispensing and valve-retaining head 17, the head being closed by an end wall 19 in the centre of which is a small dispensing orifice. A valve and actuator assembly 27 includes a skirt 29, a web 31 and an upstanding boss 33 having a socket 37 in which a port 39 carrying an applicator 41 is frictionally mounted. On the interior of the web 31 is a small projection 35 which co-operates with the orifice 21 and serves as a valve. On squeezing the container, liquid is led from the valve through off-centre conduits 43 to the applicator 41 through small metering orifices at the top of the boss 43. Locking rings 49, 51 on the interior of the skirt 29 are adapted to snap over retaining rings 23, 25 on the head 17 and to have an interference fit therewith. The valve and actuator assembly 27 can slide on the head 17 between two terminal positions whereby the orifice 21 may be opened or closed. The cap 53 is provided with threads 55 which co-operate with the threads 16 on the neck of the container. The cap includes an interior shoulder 57 so positioned that when the cap is screwed down the shoulder strikes the periphery of the actuator assembly 27 and forces the same downwardly to close the valve.
