The chassis of a side loading masted lift truck is provided with projections 8, 9, which, during loading and unloading operations, are lowered Into engagement with the ground by hydraulic jacks 16 incorporated in the spring suspension stinu of the road wheels 6, 7. As shown in Fig. 2, the jacks operate between the chassis 1 and the end 14 of a leaf-spring 11, but in a modification (Fig. 3) they act between a coilspring 21 and a wheel suspension arm 18 pivoted to the chassis at 19.
