The tines 20 of a fork lift truck are provided with linearly movable load-supporting plates 22, 23 which are extended relative to the tines by hydraulic rams 28. The fork is adapted to be lowered to ground level between wheel-supporting arms 14 extending from a steering and propulsion unit 10.
