The rear part 13 of a semi-trailer together with the rear wheel units 14, 15 is pivotally mounted at 20 on the upper fifth wheel 19 so that they may be tilted upwardly by the jack 21 to clear the load unit 17 during picking it up or depositing it. Jacks 18 are used to lift the load unit 17 into a transporting position.
