Abstract

911,774. Measuring electrolytic potentials- CATHODIC CORROSION CONTROL Ltd- March 5, 1959 [March 5, 1958], No. 7162/58. Class 37. An electrode for use in potential measurement in connection with cathodic control systems comprises a metallic plug 1 of circular cross-section which is screwed and bonded into the threaded bore of a bush 3 of electrically insulating and liquid-tight material having the same axial length as the plug. The stem 4 of the bush is externally-threaded and is screwed into a mild steel tubular housing 5 which is welded to extend through an aperture on the wall 7 of a steel structure subject to electrolytic protection. A gasket 14 is interposed between the enlarged head 13 of the bush and a seating formed on the housing 5 and the housing is closed by a removable threaded cap 26 with the interposition of a liquid-tight gasket 27. The head of the plug 1 is formed with an internally-threaded bore to receive a terminal 20 to which is attached the inner conductor 21 of a cable 22 which passes through a liquid-tight gland 23. The interior of the housing 5 is filled with an insulating non- setting compound, e.g. a plastic resin. The plug 1 may be of zinc, aluminium or magnesium.
