Abstract

1,232,334. 232, 334. Cathodic protection. H. ROSE. Sept.15, 1969 [Sept.16, 1968], No.45287/69. Heading C7E. A method for the cathodic protection of the surface of a system 1 is characterized in that upstream of the surfaces to be protected the electrolyte flowing thereover is charged with ions without the aid of external electric current by means of a consumable anode 3 arranged in the electrolyte and co-acting with an appertaining cathode 12, while the protective potential existing between the electrolyte and the surface 1 is monitored on both sides of the said system 1 and a resistance 11 between the consumable anode 3 and appertaining cathode 12 is adjusted in accordance with the results of the said monitoring, whereby to provide the required protective potential between the electrolyte and the system 1 to be protected. The monitoring is performed by potential probes Ml and M2, and chamber 2 wherein anode(s) 3 are insulated from the (cathode) wall 12 of said chamber may be separated into inlet and outlet regions by a partition (9) which supports the anodes, Fig. 2, (not shown). The system 1 may be a diesel engine, and cathodic protection of steel and/or copper is referred to.
