Abstract
Textile treating apparatus comprises a chamber adapted to be pressurized by air; a container for holding a treating liquid inside said chamber to permit pressures inside said chamber to act on said treating liquid, said container being spaced from at least one wall of the chamber to permit a human operator to manipulate material in the container from within the chamber; means for heating liquid within the container to above its atmospheric boiling point; and means for maintaining the air within the chamber conditioned for human consumption (see Group X). One or more air locks (see Group XXI) may be pro <PICT:0911513/IV (b)/1> <PICT:0911513/IV (b)/2> vided to permit the passage of men and materials into the chamber without depressurization. A safety device which can be associated with the apparatus discharges cold liquid into the container in response to pressure and temperature measurements, e.g. if the temperature approaches within 5 DEG C. of the boiling point of the treating liquid at the sensed pressure. Figs. 1 and 2 show diagrammatic plan view and elevation respectively of a textile-treating system, comprising pressure chamber 10, dye vats 13 and 14 within the chamber, and air locks 11 (material) and 12 (personnel) connecting the chamber with auxiliary building B. Platform P provides a working and storage area. Safety apparatus A comprises reservoirs 15 and 16 which discharge cooling fluid via lines 17 and 18 if safety valves 19 and 20 are actuated. Valved, V, lines 21, 22 and 23 provide for liquid supply to vats, discharge from vat to internal sump, S, and discharge from sump to external drain respectively. The valve, V, in line 23 is controlled by the liquid level in sump S.
