Abstract

910,461. Collapsing erected cartons. COOPERATIVE WHOLESALE SOC. Ltd. July 7, 1960 [June 23, 1959], No. 21540/59. Class 18. Apparatus for collapsing erected cartons comprises a conveyer carrying the cartons. rotating formers which engage and move inwardly opposite sides of the carton and endless belts which further collapse and then deliver the carton from the apparatus. The carton 12 having fold lines 12B on two opposite sides are delivered to a conveyer 10 having means 11 thereon for positioning each carton. Rotating formers 14 mounted at each side of the conveyer 10 on shafts 15 press the side walls inwardly and may be arranged to operate in sequence if the side walls overlap in the collapsed position. When the side walls are pushed inwardly, the front and rear walls are drawn towards the base of the carton and a belt 17 moving faster than the conveyer 10 further collapses each carton and draws the cartons forwardly away from the positioning means 11. Rolls 18 are adjustable to accommodate cartons of different height. Finally, the carton is engaged by the belt 17 and a lower belt 19 running at 370 r.p.m. The conveyer 10 driven by roller 22 runs at 90 r.p.m.
