910,341. Coating webs; paper. MEYER, H-E., [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK MAX KROENERT KOMM.- GES.]. Oct. 5, 1960 [Oct. 9, 1959], No. 34089/60. Classes 96 and 140. A method of coating a paper or textile web 1 with a fusible material, e.g. a natural or synthetic wax, paraffin wax or low molecular weight polythene, comprises applying the material in molten state, e.g. in a bath 5, and passing the coated web, while the coating is still plastic, between a pressure roller 8 and a polished, cooled roller 9, maintained at a temperature below 15‹ C., to produce a glossy coating on the web. If the web is coated on both sides, as shown, a second cooled roller 14 is provided, contacting the roller 9, or the roller 14 may have a separate pressure roller, the web being passed through the nip so formed instead of between rollers 9, 14. Radiant heat or a heated roller at location W may be provided to maintain the coating molten prior to engaging the roller 14. The rollers 9, 14 receive a flowing cooling medium and the roller 8, which may be rubber-covered, is urged by springs against the roller 9. The coating weight should not exceed 25 gms./square metre.
