Abstract
909,824. Colour photography. KODAK Ltd. Jan. 28, 1959 [Jan. 30, 1958], No. 3061/58. Class 98 (2). The stability of colour developed dye images in a water-permeable binder layer is improved by treating them, after removal of silver and unused silver halide and washing out of all soluble salts, with a bath containing a monosaccharide or disaccharide or hexitol or quinic acid for a time sufficient to allow the layer to absorb a substantial quantity of the compound, removing the layer and drying it while still containing such substantial quantity. The baths may be of 2¢-5% concentration and examples specify 10 minutes immersion therein, followed by squeegeeing and drying. The compounds concerned are particularised in numbered examples thus: 1-3 Hexoses, glucose 10%, glucose 5% and galactose 10%; 4-8 Hexitol compounds, 2 : 4-methylene-D-sorbitol, mannitol, sorbitol, inositol and the quinic acid, usually 10%. Preservatives such as zinc fluorosilicate and pentachlorphenol may be included in the baths. The Provisional Specification describes the use of a number of other compounds for the same purpose.
