Abstract

909,769. Rear-view mirrors. BATTERSBY, D. J. July 26, 1961 [Jan. 21, 1961], No. 251161. Class 103(2). A rear view mirror, Figs. 1, 2 3 and 5, comprises a moulded synthetic plastic casing 10 having on its front face a rim 14 to receive a mirror glass 16 and on its rear wall an integral rearwardly projecting hollow boss 13 in which is an internal partspherical seating to receive a ball head 17<SP>1</SP> on a mounting arm 17, expansion of the outer reversely tapered end 19 of the boss, after insertion of the ball head 17<SP>1</SP>, being prevented by a metal or synthetic plastic ring 20, detachably fitted over the exterior of the boss. The boss is slotted at 18, the slot width being slightly greater than the diameter of the arm 17. The mirror glass seats on a shoulder 15 in the casing, the latter being ribbed as at 11, the ribs radiating from a central boss 12. In another embodiment the outer end of the boss 13 is provided with a groove to receive a spring ring or circlip, and the rear of the casing is stiffened by shaping.
