Abstract

970,125. Rear-view mirrors. D. J. BATTERSBY. July 25, 1962 [July 26, 1961], No. 27016/61. Heading B7J. [Also in Division E2] A rear-view mirror 10 is connected to an arm 11 by a swivel joint comprising a hollow openended one-piece socket 13 integral with a base or attachment part 19 and moulded from plastic having a certain degree of resilience, and a ball head 14 directly received in the socket and retained therein by a substantially rigid sleeve 18 detachably fitted over the socket. The sleeve, which may be made of metal or rigid plastic, is adapted to be snapped over the tapered end 17 of the socket and may be integral with a cover fitting over the part 12 to hide the fixing screws. The ball head is resiliently gripped by the socket so that the mirror can be held in any desired angular position. The arm 11 is attached to the vehicle by a second similar joint.
