Abstract

909,399. Corrosion protection. COMPAGNIE DE CONSTRUCTION DE GROS MATERIEL ELECTRO-MECANIQUE. Nov. 12, 1958 [Dec. 27, 1957], No. 36360/58. Class 38 (4). In an arrangement as described in Specification 854,909 wherein electrolytic corrosion current is opposed by a similar opposing current, an automatic means is provided for measuring periodically the corrosion current, which measurement is utilized to adjust the opposing current. An electrochemical E.M.F. exists between a shaft 11 and the hull of a ship, the resistance of the electrolyte being symbolized by a resistor 3. By means of a brush 10 bearing on the shaft 11, an opposing current is applied from sources S 2 <SP>1</SP>, S 2 <SP>11</SP> connected across a potentiometer 4 whose slider 5 is adjusted by motors 16, 17 controlled from a voltage-sensitive relay 15 across which is connected a voltmeter 8. A shunted ammeter 6, 7 is connected into the circuit. S 3 is a reference source which is switched periodically into circuit by a switch 18 at the same time as the relay 15 is connected. In an alternative arrangement, the sources S 2 1, S 2 <SP>11</SP> are used additionally as the reference source.
