Class 40(1) A germanium-rectifier probe is connected into one arm of a normally-balanced D.C. bridge, subsequent unbalance current being indicative of the change in resistance of the rectifier and hence of the change in its temperature. The current through the rectifier at balance is arranged to be 10 milliamps in the forward direction, and the resistance / temperature characteristic is then linear for a temperature range of -15‹C. to 65‹C.
