A pipe jointing means comprises the combination of a part 10, Fig. 1, providing a socket adapted to receive a pipe end 12, a separately formed annular flange 14 secured to the pipe by one or more pegs or projections associated with the flange and adapted to enter a like number of holes in the pipe, a compressible sealing ring 15, and a screwthreaded component 16 for engagement with the socket, the arrangement being such that the sealing ring can be axially compressed in the socket to form a fluid-tight joint. In another embodiment, the socket 10 is formed with a smooth bore and is provided at one end with an internal annular shoulder. The socket may have an external screw-thread adapted to coact with an internal screw-thread on the component 16 which has an internal shoulder adapted to apply a compressive force to the sealing rings. In a further embodiment, the socket is provided at its central region which is sufficiently long to accommodate thermal expansion of the pipes with a bore of uniform diameter equal to the diameter of the flanges 14 at each end of which is formed a narrow annular shoulder against which a free rigid ring on the pipe ends can abut. The sealing ring is placed between this ring and the screw-threaded component. In the above embodiment the separable flange may be an annular piece pegged to the pipe or may consist of a plurality of segments each pegged to the pipe. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the separable flange comprises an annular portion 32 connected to resilient tongues 33 having projections 34. The sealing ring 35 may be replaced by a cylindrical sealing ring and a rigid ring having an interior of frusto-conical configuration.
