A counter in which rapid movement of the units wheel at transfer is obtained by means of a driving arm and a gravity arm mounted coaxially with the axis of rotation of the freely rotatable units wheel which carries stops to engagement with the arms is characterized in that the gravity arm falls in a free path to propel the wheel rapidly at transfer, whereafter the wheel remains stationary until the driving arm has taken up lost motion equivalent to the digit transfer angle. The main embodiment is identical with that described in Specification 908,584, but a modification for indicating the true counter reading during the period immediately after transfer is described. In this modification, the driving arm of the main embodiment is replaced by a driver 30 having an extended radial arm 31 carrying at its end a coloured indicator 32 visible through a tapered slot 33 in the dial plate 3. The position of the indicator 32 in conjunction with the reading of a tenths pointer on a test dial enables tenths to be accurately indicated in the region of transfer.
