[Also in Group XL (c)] An electrical coupling arrangement comprises a ring circuit 1 coupled into one transmission line 4 by a first directional coupler 2 and coupled into another transmission line 5 by a second directional coupler 3, the ring circuit including a gyrator 8 having four arms a, b, c, d, two adjacent arms a, b of Fig. 3 and a, d of Fig. 5 being connected in the ring circuit 1 and either the other two arms c and d of Fig. 3 being connected to form a secondary loop 9 in the ring circuit or at least one arm b, c of Fig. 5, being connected to power absorption devices 13 and 14, in such manner that the ring circuit is operative to pass energy in one direction but not in the reverse direction. In the arrangement of Fig. 3, the path length of the ring circuit 1 without the secondary loop 9 is made an odd number of half wavelengths and with the loop 9 an integral number of wavelengths. A non-reflecting device may be connected to the end IV of the line 5. A radar transmitter can be connected to I, an aerial to II and a receiver to III and the arrangement acts on a duplexer. In the arrangement of Fig. 3 the secondary loop 9 can be omitted and the gyrator 8 replaced by the gyrator 10 shown in Fig. 4 in which an absorption device 12 is connected to the arm c. In the circuit shown in Fig. 5, absorption devices 15 and 16 are connected to the ends III and IV of the line 5 and the arrangement acts as an isolator.
