Abstract

908,116. Rotary pumps and motors. BIRD INSTRUMENTS Ltd. Feb. 9, 1959 [Nov. 9, 1957; Dec. 23, 1958], Nos. 34996/57 and 41410/58. Class 110 (2). The rotors of a rotary pump or motor of the intermeshing screw type, Fig. 3, are each provided along their lands with a groove 6 and radial bores 7 to accommodate a resilient sealing strip and plugs 12, Fig. 3, respectively. The groove 6 may be flanked by deeper and narrower grooves 6a, Fig. 6, having a rubber mass bonded therein for seal retaining purposes. The sealing strip 9 may be U-shaped in cross-section as shown in Fig. 8 or may consist of an oval or flattened tube having one end open to the delivery pressure and the other end sealed or provided with a restricted aperture, see Fig. 10 (not shown). The rotor may be bored at 13, 16 to feed pressure fluid to selected points underneath the sealing strip.
