Abstract

<PICT:0907867/III/1> Natural or artificial sponges are impregnated with a heated liquid soap or synthetic detergent which solidifies on cooling to room temperature. As shown, it is preferred to inject the detergent substance into rectangular pieces of sponge 1, either by hand or by machine, at points 2 so that elongated tubes 3 of detergent solidify at or about the centre of the sponge on cooling. The sponge may however be produced in other shapes, and may be used in a holder which allows one or more sides or faces of the sponge to project for use. Hard soap, or a composition consisting by weight of 85% alkylaryl sulphonate, 10% sodium alkyl sulphate, and 5% paraffin wax (M.P. 70 DEG -75 DEG C.) may be used as the impregnating materials. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 848,413.
