Abstract
Polystyrene compositions comprise 6 to 14% by weight of the polystyrene of a flame-proofing substance comprising a mixture of chlorinated paraffin wax and antimony trioxide, the chlorinated paraffin wax preponderating. Preferred ranges are 5 to 10% of wax and 1 to 4% of antimony trioxide. The polystyrene may be expanded highly porous, non-inflammable material suitable for heat-insulating purposes. Specification 785,993 is referred to.ALSO:Non-inflammable highly porous polystyrene is prepared by expanding compositions comprising polystyrene and 6 to 14% by weight of a flame-proofing substance comprising chlorinated paraffin wax and antimony trioxide, the wax preponderating. Preferred ranges are 5 to 10% of wax and 1 to 4% of antimony trioxide. The expansion may be effected by known methods either continuously or discontinuously, and the product used for heat insulating purposes. Specification 785,993 is referred to.
