Abstract

<PICT:0838181/III/1> A detergent composition, suitably in block form, comprises a synthetic detergent, generally an alkyl sulphate or an alkylaryl sulphonate, and an astringent consisting of, or including, alum, which is generally present in a minor proportion, preferably 3% by weight. As shown, a block A of the composition is provided with a bore B having a solid liner C of glass, ceramic, or plastic at the upper end to prevent the loop D, which may be elastic, from rubbing against the block; the lower part of this loop is anchored by means of disc E. The block is hung from loop D and is used by being placed in water until sufficient has dissolved.
