Abstract

907,124. Automatic control systems for grinding mills. RHEINISCHE KALKSTEINWERKE G.m.b.H. Jan. 2, 1959 [Jan. 4, 1958; Aug. 19, 1958; Oct. 22, 1958], No. 248/59. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group II] Material to be ground is passed through a beater mill and a tube mill in succession and the input to the beater mill is automatically controlled in dependence on the grindability of the material as measured in the beater mill. In Fig. 2, material to be ground is supplied from a storage bin 1 to a charging device 5 for a beater mill 2 (i.e. a hammer mill or breaker plate mill), the output of which is supplied to a tube mill 3. Charging device 5 is automatically controlled by a system 4 to maintain constant the current taken by an electric motor (not shown) driving the beater mill. Since the output of the beater mill 2 is supplied to the tube mill 3 the load on the latter will also be constant despite changes in the grindability of the material, and the arrangement is such that this load is an optimum one for the tube mill. However, in addition, beater mill 2 may be automatically controlled by a system 11 in dependence on the current taken by the electric motor (not shown) driving the tube mill or a bucket elevator 8 supplying the output of tube mill 3 to an air separator 6 which returns too coarse material through a pipe 7 to tube mill 3 and supplies the suitably ground material through a pipe 9. Fig. 6 shows a similar system for controlling charging of the beater mill but in this case part of the output of tube mill 3 is periodically supplied to a classifier 22 in which alteration in the ratio of the weights of particles above and below a predetermined size automatically controls the beater mill 2 through a system 24.
