907,095. Making helically seamed corrugated tubing; coiling; soldering. METALLSCHLAUCHFABRIK A.G. Nov. 28, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1959], No. 40814/60. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] A method of producing a double or multiple walled corrugated pipe consists in helically winding a single corrugated band so that the windings of the band overlap by a plurality of corrugations. A corrugated metal band 4 having somewhat more than two corrugations is wound on a mandrel so that always more than one corrugation is overlapped. The threefold band layer thus produced at the corrugation peaks is welded together at 5 by resistance welding or welding by local induction heating or by high frequency. A triple walled pipe may similarly be produced by winding a band having somewhat more than three corrugations so that it overlaps by more than two corrugations. Instead of welding the tubing may be soldered, in which case, Fig. 5, a solder wire 7 is wound with the band to lie in a depression 10 in the top of the corrugations. The solder is melted, either continuously, concurrent with the winding, or after winding of a pipe has been completed, by electric resistance heating, by induction heating or by a gas flame.
