Abstract
The vaporization of a liquid hydrocarbon stream containing C3-C6 olefins is effected by direct contact with steam, e.g. in a distillation column, where the hydrocarbon is introduced at the top and direct steam below. The condensed water washes away deposits and prevents fouling. The steam used is preferably saturated but may be superheated. Where the vapour stream is to be used as feed to a dehydrogenation unit, excess steam is added to give the required steam: hydrocarbon ratio, e.g. 0,1-1 by weight, and an overhead temperature of 100 DEG -400 DEG F.ALSO:The vaporization of a liquid hydrocarbon stream containing C3-C6 olefins is effected by direct contact with steam, e.g. in a distillation column, where the hydrocarbon is introduced at the top and direct steam below. The condensed water washes away deposits and prevents fouling. The steam used is preferably saturated but may be superheated. Where the vapour stream is to be used as feed to a dehydrogenation unit, excess steam is added to give the required steam: hydrocarbon ratio, e.g. 0.1-1 by weight, and an overhead temperature of 100-400 DEG F. The dehydrogenation of C4-C6 olefins to diolefins over calcium nickel phosphate-chromium oxide is described.
