Abstract
906,658. Piezo-electric crystals. EBAUCHES S.A. July 6, 1960 [July 9, 1959], No. 23675/60. Class 40 (8). A quartz crystal plate oscillating in a thickness-shear mode is excited by an electric field applied parallel to its major surfaces. The plate may be of AT cut and the field is applied in the XZ<SP>1</SP> plane. As shown, a bevelled quartz disc is provided with electrodes 2, 3 covering the whole of the crystal except in a gap 4 running parallel to the X axis. The plate is supported by conductive claws 9, 10, 11 at the ends of springs 6, 7, 8. These are supported from an insulated base 5 and provide conductive connections for the electrodes. In a modification, the plate 15, Fig. 5, is supported by claws 19, 20, &c. within an insulating annulus 25. The annulus also supports pairs 16, 17 and 16<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>1</SP> of D-shaped electrodes spaced from the crystal plate. Opposite members of each pair of electrodes are connected by conductive bridges 22, 22<SP>1</SP>. It is stated that the invention results in an increase in the resistance of the crystal together with a much greater increase in its inductance.
