Abstract
906,401. Laminates. PRESSED STEEL CO. Ltd. Aug. 24, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 36515/59. Class 140. [Also in Groups XIV and XXXII] Cushioned articles such as crash pads, arm rests and door pads for vehicles, and seats for vehicles, perambulators, &c., comprise a facing layer 11, Fig. 2, of flexible plastics material such as a butadiene-acrylonitrile - styrene copolymer or plastics leather cloth, moulded to the required shape as by vacuum forming, a rigid backing member 12, for example, of plastics material such as P.V.C. or of wood, papier mache or metal, formed to a corresponding shape in the same sense, and intermediate padding material 13, which may comprise foamed plastics material such as polyurethane separately formed or foamed in situ and may be first adhered to the facing layer, the composite layers being then secured to the backing. In the crash pad shown, the layers are secured together around their edges 14 as by heat and pressure. In an arm-rest, Fig. 3, formed as above, the edges of the facing and backing layers 15, 16, are secured by rivets 19 to a motor vehicle door 18 and are covered by a trim pad comprising a hardboard backing 20, vinyl foam padding 21 and a leather-cloth facing layer 22. The lower edge is also covered by metal beading 23. In a modification, the arm rest may be secured to the trim pad backing 20, the whole being secured to the door as a unit.
