906,073. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems; valves. BELL AEROSPACE CORPORATION. Aug. 31, 1959, No. 29605/59. Class 135. A pilot valve for a servo-valve mechanism comprises two nozzles 40, 42 mounted in a housing 44 and separated by the flat end portion 46 of an oscillating armature unit which is attached to a flexible tube 102 in sealed relation therewith, one end of the unit having an end portion 50 actuated by electromagnets 68, 70 so as to rock the flat portion and thereby throttle the nozzles, the tube serving to centre the flat portion and also form a fluid seal between the nozzle and the electromagnets. The flat end portion 46 is formed on one end of a spindle 104 forming part of the armature, the other end of the spindle being secured within the end of the tube 102 which is also secured at that end to a portion 50 of the armature, the flat portion being centralized between the nozzle by the tube; if desired, permanent magnets 74, 76 may be provided for additionally biasing the armature to the central position. As shown, the pilot valve is mounted on a relay spool-valve 15 connected to a piston- and-cylinder device 24, 26. In operation, pressurized fluid is fed at equal pressures from the ends of the spool 25 to the nozzles 40, 42, the fluid being throttled equally by the centralized end portion 52, thereby maintaining the spool in its central position. When an input signal is fed to the electromagnets, the end portion is moved thereby differentially throttling the nozzles so that, through relay valve 15, the piston 26 is actuated.
