Abstract
905,946. Reactors. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Oct. 28, 1959 [Oct. 29, 1958], No. 36518/59. Class 39 (4). In a homogeneous reactor, the moderator liquid, containing the fissile material as a solution or suspension, forms an internal core which is surrounded by an outer zone containing a suspension or solution of fertile material and the two zones are in communication to facilitate chemical reprocessing and maintenance of the fuel cycle. As shown, the reactor vessel 1 is divided by the wall 2 into a core 4 and outer zone 3. The fuel solution is led in at 5 and out at 6 and the fertile liquid enters at 7 and leaves at 8. Both zones 3 and 4 are in communication with chamber 10 through gaps 12, 13 and a mixture of the fertile and fissile liquids is withdrawn through 11 to an external separating plant where the erosion, corrosion and solid fission products are collected. The reactivity may be controlled by varying the distribution of the fissile material in the core and outer zones.
