Abstract

1309006 Controlling reactors COMMISSARIAT & L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 24 July 1970 [25 July 1969] 36052/70 Heading G6C In a pulsed nuclear reactor, the reactivity is controlled by a neutron reflector, movable with respect to a stationary fissile solution. The gaseous fission products and radiolysis gases are ducted into a separate tank where the radiolysis gases are recombined. The fissile solution, of a uranyl salt, is fed into the vessel 10, Fig. 1, by the conduit 14 is subcritical with the reflector 28 in the lower position and supercritical in the upper position shown. Vertical reciprocation of 28 is effected by the jack 30. The vessel 10 is cooled by coil 26. In a modification, a safety control rod may be lowered into the core solution which is monitored for temperature and neutron flux. To reduce radiolysis, the fuel solution contains an inhibitor, such as a copper salt. Control is also effected by the negative temperature, coefficient of reactivity of the fissile solution.
