905,560. Loud-speakers. GEENSEN, P. C. Dec. 28, 1959, No. 43958/59. Class 40 (4). In a loud-speaker baffle comprising alternate sound-absorbent and metallic plates, provided with an opening of the same size as a loudspeaker diaphragm, the loud-speaker is secured to a housing 17 which is attached by insulated bolts to one face of the plates 1 to 7. The plates 1, 7 (Fig. 1) are made of a fibrous material and plates 2, 6 may also be made of fibrous material e.g. plywood or wood fibre board; plates 3, 5 may be made of felt paper with a border 15, 16 thereof made of a less sound-absorbent material e.g. wood-veneered felt; and plate 4, only one of a number of such plates being shown in Fig. 1, is a metal plate e.g. copper, which only touches the borders 15, 16 of plates 3, 5 respectively and is of such thickness and density that it has a resonant frequency in the audio spectrum 16- 20,000 c/s. In Fig. 2 a number of metal plates 21, 23, 25, having different resonances are shown sandwiched between wood veneered felt plates 22, 24, fibrous plates 19, 27, and felt plates 18, 20, 28. More than three plates and other sound-absorbent materials may be used.
