Abstract

905,423. Self-feeding rotary brushes. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. May 10, 1961 [July 13, 1960], No. 17067/61. Class 19. A rotary brush com- prises a hollow cylindrical hub 1 having a fluid inlet 4 and a fluid outlet such as 5, 6, 7, 8, and an annular brush element 11 extending therearound and having inwardlyprojecting protuberances 15 spacing it from the hub to form an annular space into which fluid may be supplied from the hub for distribution beneath the brush element and from which the fluid may pass radially outwardly past the element in such a way that it contacts the brush material. As shown, a plurality of elements, of the type having an annular sheet-metal channel back in which bristle material, e.g. wire, is secured beneath a folded sheet-metal retaining- ring, are mounted on the hub and secured in axially compacted assembly by end members in such a way that small spaces are provided between the elements by means of radial indents in the channel backs for passage of fluid radially outwardly. The fluids may be cooling air, water, a lubricant or a cleaning fluid. A length of brush strip may be helically coiled around the hub.
