Abstract

905,320. Washing sugar. TATE & LYLE Ltd. Jan. 7, 1959 [Jan. 28, 1958], No. 2775/58. Class 127. During centrifuging of a wet sugar mass water is projected on to its interior at a rate of not less than one gallon per second. This produces more effective washing than spraying. In the apparatus shown, the sugar 3 is rotated in a basket 1 within a casing 2. Pipes 9 leading from a pot 4 and supported by a bracket 10 in positions directed to different levels of the sugar mass. The pot is filled with water through a valve 7 and, when the centrifuge approaches maximum speed, is discharged by admitting compressed air through a valve 8.
