Abstract

905,138. Folding chairs. DESMO Ltd. Dec. 22, 1958 [Dec. 27, 1957], No. 40184/57. Class 52 (2). A folding chair has an elongated ring frame 3 supported on a folding leg framework consisting of U-shaped leg frames 7, 8 pivoted together at 10, rear legs 8 being pivoted to lugs 11 on frame 3 and legs 7 having spikes to engage holes, not shown, in the underside of frame 3, the seat itself being formed by a length of fabric 13 loosely looped between the upper and lower ends of frame 3 and a second length of fabric 14 stretched across the limbs 15 of a U-shaped frame pivoted to lugs 11. The fabric 13 is laid across fabric 14 and looped around the central portion 16 of the seat frame so that fabric 13 becomes taut in the erect position. A helical tension spring 18 is connected each side of the chair between the seat frame and the foot of rear leg frame 8 to swing the seat frame away from the ring frame 3 on opening. The ring frame 3 may be in two parts joined by spigots 19.
