Abstract

19,362. Reed, J. H. Aug. 29. Bedsteads; chairs; hammocks. -A hammock chair, convertible into a hammock, bed, or stretcher, comprises two rectangular frames a, d pivoted together at k and each provided with a leg c and stay e adapted to engage a notch c<2> on the leg. The fabric b is secured to a rail d<3> at the back of the bottom frame, passes loosely over the front bar f, and is attached at the upper end to an adjusting- roller secured in position by a pin j engaging holes h<2>. The rail d' may also be made adjustable. The front bar is attached to the frame by means of short pivoted links f<1> secured by screwed pins f<3>. When used as a chair, as shown in Fig. 1, the set of legs attached to the member a are used to adjust the inclination of the back by engaging with notches d<1> on the frame d. When the article is used as a camp bed, the bar f is dropped clear of the fabric and the two main frames are held in line by screwed pins m engaging with holes a<3> in the frames. The device converted into a hammock is illustrated in Fig. 12. To convert the camp bed into a stretcher, the legs and stays are folded into line with the main frames.
