This invention relates V particularly to a structure which may be converted at will into either a cot or a chair.

It is one object of the present invention to provide a structure, of the character indicated that may be quickly and easily changed from a cot to a chairfor a chair to a cot or any intermediate position. l

It is another object to provide a structure of the character indicated that may be iiXed rigidly in position or allowed to swing freely as desired.

It is still another object of t-he invention to provide a structure of the character indicated wherein the foot-piece may be utilized as the foot of the 'cot when the structure isv formed into a cotl and as a foot-rest when the structure isformed into a chair. p

It is also an object of the invention to provide a structure of the character indicated so constructed and arranged asto be readily mounted upon any suitable support.

Finally it is an object ot the invention to provide a structure of the character indicated that is economical to manufacture, that is so constructed that its head may be run out of an ordinary window, that may be used as a stretcher or operating table, that may be operated by the occupant without assistance, thatmay be folded for carrying, and highly eiiicient in its practical application. Referring now more particularly to the drawing, I show at 1-2, 1-2 two pairs of crossed supporting legs connected by a bolt 3 about which they may pivot and a spacing shelf 4. In the upper end of each leg is mounted a pin as 5 for the purpose hereinafter described.

The combination cot and chair portion of the device comprises three main section, indienlarged detail plan view cated generally by the letters C, D and (C1277. y

, The section C comprises a pair of side this ear is pivotally connected to an arm 14 as at 15. The arm 14'is provided with-oriifices 16 to engage pins 5 as shown.v The opposite end of plate 12r is'turned inwardly a distance as at 17 to engagea cross bar 18, and lalso is provided with an upstanding ear 19 on the inside of bar V6.

The section D comprises a pair of side bars as 20, each bar having an outwardly turned lower flange 21 to strengthen` the' same andan upwardly turned ear 22 at one end adapted to lie along side of the'earfli) on bar 12 and'pivotally connected thereto by an adjustable fastener 23. The other end of the bar 20 has a"downwar'dly turned ear 24.

vThe third section E comprises a pair of short'side bars 2,5, each bar 2-having a plate 26 mounted on one Vend thereof, the bar 26 having one .end turned downwardly toy lie along side ofy the ear 24 on bar 20 to which it is pivotally connected by a fastener 27. This end of plate 26 also has a laterally extending finger 28 to which is'secured a cross bar 29 thereby spacing and bracing the two side bars 25. On the opposite end of the plate 26 is a flange 3() turned to lie flat onr the top of bar 25 and carrying an upstanding portion 31 forming a bearing for a rod 32 whlich connects and spaces the icorresponding ends of the two bars 25, this rod having a ratchet 33 mounted on one end and engaging a dog 34 mounted on the flange 30. On rod 32 is mounted the lower end of the canvas 8. On the lower ends of the bars 25 is mounted a clamping device 35 fully described yin myv application above referred to which serves both as a clamping device for the bedding and valso as a foot rest when the deviceis formed into a chair. In the present case theJ device consists of a pair of upstanding rods 36 mounted in bars 25 and having a cross-bar 37 mounted thereon and a second cross-bar 38 slidahly mounted thereon and carrying friction plates 38a to engage rods 36. i

'I he fastening devices 23-27 are identical in construction and are' preferably iliade' as follows, using the connection between plates 2U' and 26 for the purpose of illustration.

The end of bar 26 is unched outwardly as shown at 39 thereby orining' a tapering portion which is internally threaded as at 4'0. The ear 24 is likewise punched outwardly to forni an opening 4l, this part also having a taperingedge, but this is left smooth to engage theV outer surface of the part 39, A button 42 is provided with an inwardly turned flange on its head as shown at 43,- and this button isI threaded as at 44 to engage the threaded portion of the part 39. The inner end of the button 42 is spread slightly so as not to interfere with its loosening but to prevent its withdrawal or working loose, as indicated at 45.

The canvas 8 s connected to the cross-bar 18 by means of a s'tripas 46 secured thereto and passing around the said cross-baras shown clearly in Figure 2'. y IVhen assembled as .above set forth the frame may be quickly and easily arranged in any suitable position as chair or cot and the canvas stretched to therequired tension. The occupant of the device may vloosen or tighten the fasteners and so secure the desired position.
