Abstract

904,671. Extruding. HYDRAULIK G.m.b.H. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 22, 1958], No. 43171/59. Class 83 (4). In an extrusion process the extruded product 15 is separated from the discard 13 by inductively heating the product near the discard at 20 and applying a tensile force to constrict and finally rupture the product at the point of heating. The extrusion press has a ram 1 and dummy block 2 which extrude a billet through a die 12 mounted in a holder assembly 7-11, inclusive supported on a bolster 5. After extrusion, the product 15, Fig. 3, which may be a rod or tube, is supported on a roller table 16 and gripped by jaws 18 on a carriage 17. An inductor coil 20, Fig. 7, fed with high, medium or mains frequency current through an incandescent transmitter 19, then heats and softens the product and the carriage 17 is moved to the right to constrict and rupture the product. Simultaneously, ram 1 is withdrawn, Fig. 2 (not shown), an ejector plate 23 is placed thereon, and subsequently the container is moved to the left by driving plungers 6, to withdraw the separated end from the die and eject it together with the dummy block 2 and any residual shell 14, from the container bore. The extruded product is meanwhile withdrawn by the carriage 17. In another embodiment, Figs. 4-6, 8, 9 (not shown), the product is separated on the container side of the die after slightly withdrawing the container and introducing into the space provided a two-part inductor coil. Tensile force is applied during heating by the carriage 17 and/or by moving the container.
