[Also in Group XVII] In a packing-machine, sweets flowing down a funnel 1 to a bag 21, encounter a notched roller 5. The funnel exit is closed by flaps 2, 3 opened by cam means 15 and having extensions 23 which open the bag, the latter being carried on a vertically reciprocatable holder 22 which raises it to embrace the extensions. Part 16 of the funnel wall is movable by the same or other cam means to increase the area of the exit orifice and may be agitated to stimulate flow. Several rollers instead of one, may be provided. In another embodiment, belts 44 travel against the article flow and form part of a funnel which is pivoted about an axis 31 so that first one, then the other of exit channels 40, 41 may be brought into position over bags 38. A flap 39 enables one channel to be filled while the other is being discharged.
