Abstract
904,632. Adhesive bandages. SCHLADERMUNDT, P., DENNERLEIN, W. M., and SIMONS, L. S. June 9, 1959, No. 19776/59. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XVII] An adhesive bandage package comprises an adhesive bandage presenting an adhesive surface and a wrapper, part of which serves as a facing in contact with the adhesive surface, the wrapper comprising a pair of sheets connected by a breakable juncture, one of the sheets being removably wrapped around one end of the bandage to form a tab by which the bandage may be withdrawn from the other sheet. An adhesive bandage 10, comprising a tape 12 carrying pressure-sensitive adhesive 13 on one side and with or without a centrally located dressing pad 14, has one wrapper portion 21 around one end forming a tab 22 and a second wrapper portion 20 which extends along the remainder of the front and back of the bandage and is secured by heat-sealing or adhesive to the first wrapper portion 21 by a seam 35 at the back of the bandage. At the front of the bandage, the second wrapper portion overlaps the first wrapper portion and extends beyond the end of the bandage or is folded back on itself (not shown) to form a tab 41. The tab 41 is sealed to the tab 22 along a line 40 spaced inwardly of the end of the bandage. The longitudinal edges of the wrappers extend beyond the bandage and are sealed to form an envelope. In use, tabs 22, 41 are pulled apart so that the second wrapper portion 20 may be peeled from the bandage and separated from the tab 22 by which the bandage is held during application to the body. The first wrapper portion is then removed and application of the bandage is completed. The first wrapper portion may extend along the back of the bandage (Fig. 7, not shown), the second wrapper portion being sealed to it at the end remote from the tabs and extending only along the front adhesive-coated side of the bandage. A pack of wrapped bandages 63 (Fig. 10) may be fixed by a staple 65 passing through projecting end tabs 41 to a cover 60, the other tabs 22 facing the cover. In use, the bandage adjacent the cover is released first by a pull on the tab 22 which separates the bandage from the second wrapper portion. The second wrapper portion is then tucked into a strap 64 on the cover so that the next bandage is accessible. The cover may extend around the pack and be closed by tucking one end into a pocket or flap formed at the other end. The pack may alternatively be attached by the tabs 41 to a U-shaped bracket 71 (Fig. 11) which extends from a rigid backing 70 supported on a wall. The other tabs 22 face away from the backing. When a bandage has been released from the second wrapper portion by a pull on its other tab 22, the second wrapper is folded over the bracket 71 to the rear of the pack. Alternatively, a pack of wrapped bandages may be secured by the ends of the wrappers remote from the tabs 22, 41 to a cover or rigid backing. Specification 754,848 is referred to.
