Abstract
904,614. Handling liquid cargoes. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Jan. 25, 1961 [March 15, 1960], No. 2910/61. Class 78 (4). A pair of articulated conduits 25, 39 for transferring fluids, e.g. to and from a ship, are luffed by devices 27, 41 which, in the form shown, are hydraulic rams. The conduits are supplied by a standpipe 11 connected, in the form shown, by a slewing pivot 15 to a conduit 13 braced by a bracket 17. The luffing pivots 23a, 23b, 37a, 37b may be formed by forked yokes 14a, 14b, 35a, 35b or, alternatively, one side of each yoke may be omitted. At the distal end the conduit 39 terminates in swivels 45, 49 and a connecting elbow. The ram 27 may be connected to a universal joint directly to the fixed supporting structure 21, or to the top of an auxiliary post. Relief valves may limit the pressure in the rams.
