Abstract
904,560. Fire-extinguishing powders. ANSUL CHEMICAL CO. April 10, 1959 [Feb. 6, 1959], No. 12169/59. Class 47. In a fire-extinguisher charge stored in a sealed container under internal gas pressure the charge comprises a dry chemical fire-extinguishing powder, a particulate solid adsorbent and a gaseous expellant, the fire-extinguishing powder is substantially free of adsorbed water and the adsorbent adsorbs at least 10% of the expellant gas whereby the total mass of expellant gas that can be accommodated at a determined temperature and pressure is increased. The charge may consist of the following constituents by weight: 40-90% dry chemical fire-extinguishing powder, e.g. sodium bicarbonate, alkali-metal bicarbonate, 10-40% of a high surface area adsorbent, e.g. silica gel, activated carbon, attapulgus clay, synthetic zeolite, activated alumina or silica-alumina and 2.5-10% of expellant gas, e.g. carbon dioxide, nitrogen, nitrous oxide, ethane or halogenated hydrocarbons.
